Château d’Aquéria is a beautiful early 18th century house surrounded by a splendid south-facing 75 hectare vineyard. Vincent de Bez makes the wines, whilst his brother Bruno looks after the vineyard. Like the Perrins at Château de Beaucastel, the brothers are great believers in Mourvèdre.
They are the largest independent producers of Tavel. Disproving the rule of quantity over quality, the rosé is one of the finest of the appellation, whilst their red and white Lirac represent particularly good value when compared with some of the better known Crus on the other side of the Rhône in the Vaucluse.
We are not alone in our belief that Aquéria is the Rolls-Royce of Tavel.
